Thanksgiving can be a challenging time for some families who are experiencing food insecurity and poverty. The cost of ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner may be out of budget if you are struggling with bills or other financial stress. There are several organizations in Stark and Summit County that offer Thanksgiving food giveaways and hot meals so families and children can enjoy the holiday.
Stark County
Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank

Stark County Hunger Task Force
Holiday meal ingredients can also be secured from the Stark County Hunger Task Force, which operates the Community Campus Food Pantry out of the Ken Weber Community Campus at Goodwill. Refuge of Hope

CommQuest Samaritan’s Table
CommQuest offers hot lunches through their Samaritan’s Table every Thursday from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Parish Hall 627 McKinley Avenue NW, Canton. Union Baptist Church

FRIENDS IN TENTS will serve a "Friendsgiving" meal to those in need during site hours from Nov. 18 through Nov. 27 at 594 Fifth St. NE, Barberton. Hours: Noon-4 p.m. Monday and Friday, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, noon-5 p.m. Wednesday.

GOOD SAMARITAN HUNGER CENTER - Thanksgiving turkeys for households at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Line up from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 25 (while food lasts) at Joy Park, 825 James Ingram Way, Akron. Line up on the street, have your trunk empty and open. Limit one turkey per family, no more than two families per vehicle. No proxies without a proxy letter. No smoking when being served. Do not call the agency or community center.
